Obama Names singer "Shakira" his adviser

Appointed by President Barack Obama on Wednesday, the Colombian singer of Lebanese origin, Shakira, a member of the Advisory Committee on Cultural Excellencefor Hispanics.



The White House said in a statement that Shakira Isabel Mubarak Ripoll, singer, dancerand songwriter and producer won several Grammy Awards took part in many cultural projects through the establishment of the society "barefoot" in 1995 that contribute to thesupport of schools in Colombia, South Africa and Haiti, with around 6 thousand students ,also collaborated with the World Bank and the Association of "barefoot" in 2010 to support development programs in Latin America, Shakira, and participated in severalother humanitarian initiatives in 2003 and was appointed ambassador to the United Nations Fund for Children.
